All of our shears are proudly made in Taiwan, crafted with precision and care by experienced artisans using high-grade steel.
Types of Hair Cutting Shears and Their Functions
Dry Cutting Shears: Best for slide cutting, feathering, and motion-based techniques. Rounded, convex blades with pronounced curves—similar to a willow leaf. Thicker, wider body.
Wet Cutting Shears: Ideal for blunt cuts, point cutting, and over-comb techniques.Thin, sharp, and straight blades with minimal curvature. Narrow and lightweight body.
Thinning Shears: Used for reducing weight and adding texture without removing length. One or both blades have evenly spaced teeth; the other blade may be smooth or also toothed.
What's the difference between Cutting Shears and Thinning Shears?
Cutting Shears: Primarily used to shorten hair length. Ideal for full haircuts, shaping fringes (bangs), and trimming ends with precision.
Thinning Shears: Designed with irregular, notched teeth. These shears reduce hair volume without shortening the overall length, helping create soft, lightweight layers and natural texture.
What’s the difference between Dry Cutting, Wet Cutting, and Thinning shears?
Dry Cutting Shears are designed for clean, accurate cuts on dry hair.
Wet Cutting Shears are optimized for smooth glide and control on damp hair.
Thinning Shears reduce bulk and create soft, blended textures without harsh lines.
How to Choose Shears for Dry Hair Cutting?
If you mainly work with dry cutting techniques for structural shaping, it's best to choose a straight-edged cutting shear as your primary tool.
When selecting a shear, we recommend choosing one with a thicker blade. Thicker blades generally offer better durability and a longer lifespan.
By contrast, thin-edged blades may feel lighter but tend to wear out more quickly over time.
Takumi Care
Do you offer sharpening services for other brands?
Yes. Our Takumi Care sharpening service is available for most high-quality shears, regardless of brand. We welcome both Takumi and non-Takumi users.
How do I send in my shears for sharpening?
To begin, simply place a sharpening order and we’ll guide you through every step—including how to package and send your shears safely.
How long does the sharpening process take?
Once we receive your shears, sharpening is completed within 5-7 business days. We’ll return them fully polished, adjusted, and ready to use.

What if my shears cannot be sharpened after inspection?
If our technicians determine that your shears cannot be safely or effectively sharpened (due to severe damage, excessive wear, or structural issues), we will notify you immediately. You may choose to have them returned as-is or responsibly recycled at no additional cost. If you request a refund instead, we will issue it after deducting the return shipping cost.
What happens if my shears are damaged during sharpening?
We take the utmost care in every sharpening process. In the rare event that damage occurs due to our handling, we will work with you to either repair or replace the shears, depending on the extent of the issue.

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and Shopify Pay.
How long will my order take to arrive?
In-stock products: 3–7 business days within the continental U.S.
Takumi Care service: 5–7 business days from the day we receive your shears.
How do I track my order?
Once your order ships, you will receive an email with a tracking number.
Do you offer expedited shipping?
Yes, expedited shipping options are available at checkout.
Do you offer international shipping?
At this time, we only serve customers within the United States. We do not offer international shipping or sharpening services outside the U.S.
Can I return or exchange my order?
If your shears are unused and in original packaging, you may return or exchange them within 30 days of delivery. Please refer to our Return Policy for details.
Customizations
Color
We understand that every customer has unique tastes and preferences when it comes to customizing their products. To cater to this demand, we offer a range of color options for customizations. Our most popular color options include gold, black, and rose-gold, which are available for a wide range of products.
However, we would like to inform our customers that not all colors are available for every product. While we are open to discussing other color options, we urge our customers to keep in mind that availability may vary. We are committed to providing the best possible service and will work closely with our customers to ensure that their customizations meet their expectations.

Lefties
We manufacture all our scissors, so we can customize them as needed. Just keep in mind that producing a customized scissor will incur additional cost.
Engraving
Anything can be engraved, as long as you provide us with your digital files to do so. One thing remains unchanged though, the OHKA logo's position will always be in the center.
Sizes
If you fancy a scissor model with a different blade size, that can be discussed. Send us an email and we can quote you the price, no problem at all.
Metals
If you want a specific scissor model made in a different metal, such as Damascus, etc. Please send us an email to discuss this and give you a quote. Prices may change considerably based on the metal.
Full Original Design
At this time, we do not offer services for customers who would like to have an original design created just for them. However, we do offer a variety of customizable options that you can choose from to create a unique and personalized pair of hair scissors.
